GLOBE Slovenia parliamentary group
(GLOBE – Global Legislators Organisation for a Balanced Environment)


The GLOBE Slovenia parliamentary group (hereinafter: GLOBE Slovenia) comprises the deputies of the National Assembly and the members of the National Council. They are all full members of GLOBE Slovenia, and their membership coincides with the term of the National Assembly or of the National Council. Upon the expiry thereof, they remain members only if re-elected to the National Assembly or to the National Council. If they are not elected, they may still act as members of GLOBE Slovenia but have no voting rights.

GLOBE Slovenia has a Chair, a Deputy Chair, and optional number of members, It is headed by an Executive Committee. In the parliamentary term 2008-2012, the Globe Slovenia was established on 10th March 2009, established at the founding session on 10 March 2009 when President, Vice President and a 7-member Executive Committee were elected. In addition to President and Vice President, the Executive Committe members include three Members of Parliament and two State Advisers.

GLOBE Slovenia monitors, promotes and coordinates cooperation and activities in relation to sustainable development, management and protection of the environment and nature, the adoption of the relevant legislation, and the correct implementation thereof. It facilitates the interactions among state authorities and institutions, expert and scientific institutions, NGOs acting in environment protection, and the public concerned, and aims at improving mutual cooperation and understanding, timely information, and the exchange of opinions and motions to achieve sustainable development and environment protection.

GLOBE Slovenia is a member of GLOBE Europe - a network of national GLOBE groups from European countries - as well as a member of GLOBE International. GLOBE Slovenia discusses the decisions and resolutions adopted by GLOBE Europe and GLOBE International, and proposes to the National Assembly and the Government to adopt the relevant measures. GLOBE Slovenia establishes bilateral contacts with representatives of individual national GLOBE groups.

The members of GLOBE Slovenia participate in various international meetings and conventions. They regularly attend interparliamentary meetings on renewable energy and the forums organised by NEEDS (New Energy Externalities Developments for Sustainability), discussing the costs and benefits of individual energy sources.
